The Commissioner in charge of Transport and Logistics at the Plateau State Independent National Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Honourable Ado Audu Adere, has urged secondary school students in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, to make informed life decisions, stressing that the choices they make today will determine their future success.

Adere gave the charge as the Special Guest of Honour and sponsor of the event at an educational seminar organised by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Community Development Service (CDS) Group, Miango, held at ECWA Bishara 1, Miango, where students received mentorship on career development, mental health, sex education and life after secondary school.

Speaking during the seminar, Adere applauded the corps members for investing their time and resources in shaping the lives of young people through education and mentorship, describing the initiative as a valuable contribution to community development.

He reminded the students that success in life is largely determined by the decisions they make, urging them to remain focused, resilient and determined despite the challenges they may encounter.

According to him, every great leader was once a student who made the right choices, adding that discipline, hard work and perseverance remain essential ingredients for achieving success.

Earlier, the Sub-Community Liaison Officer (Sub-CLO) of the NYSC CDS Group, Miango, Markus Godwin, said the seminar was organised to provide students with the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed career and life decisions while addressing issues that significantly affect their academic and personal development.

He explained that the programme was designed to expose students to practical guidance on career choice, mental health awareness, sex education and life after secondary school, noting that empowering young people with the right information would help them become responsible members of society.

Facilitators at the seminar engaged students in interactive sessions where they discussed responsible decision-making, emotional well-being, stress management and the importance of seeking help for mental health challenges. They also encouraged participants to explore careers based on their talents, interests and available opportunities while embracing vocational skills and entrepreneurship.

The sponsor of the programme, Hon. Ado Audu Adere, expressed delight at supporting the initiative, describing it as an investment in the future of the community’s young people.

He commended the corps members for their commitment to youth development and encouraged them to sustain programmes that promote education, leadership and personal growth.

Also speaking, the NYSC Local Government Inspector for Bassa, Rachael Makoli, described the seminar as a timely and impactful intervention, pledging continued support for initiatives that promote the educational and social development of young people across the local government.

Mrs. Mariam Ngwe also lauded the NYSC CDS Group for the positive impact of the programme on both students and teachers, saying similar engagements had continued to produce excellent results within schools.

She appealed to the corps members to sustain the initiative and called for another session involving parents, teachers and the Parent-Teacher Association to further address issues affecting students.

Community leader, Uncle Gasto Barry, offered prayers and words of encouragement to the corps members, expressing confidence that their dedication to community service would be rewarded.

The seminar featured interactive question-and-answer sessions, counselling and mentorship, as well as the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities, including Audu Adere, in recognition of their contributions to education and community development.

Community leaders, teachers and other stakeholders commended the NYSC CDS Group for organising the seminar, describing it as a timely intervention that would inspire students to pursue purposeful careers and become responsible leaders.

The corps members reaffirmed their commitment to implementing projects that promote youth empowerment, maintaining that an informed generation remains the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous society.
