A Federal High Court has ordered the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi after he repeatedly failed to appear for arraignment over alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.
Justice Muhammed Umar issued the bench warrant on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja following an application by police counsel, Wisdom Madaki.
Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC, was scheduled to take his plea on an eight-count charge.
However, the defendant failed to appear in court despite the case being listed as number 12 on the court’s cause list.
His lawyer, Genesis Francis, announced appearance on his behalf and attributed his absence to alleged threats to his life.
Madaki told the court that the case had come up five times, with previous adjournments allegedly caused by the defendant’s failure to appear.
“My lord, this is the fifth time this case is coming up, and all the adjournments have been at the instance of the defendant,” the police lawyer told the court.
Relying on Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, the prosecution asked the court to issue a warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest.
The defence opposed the application, arguing that Adeyemi had previously appeared for arraignment on May 16 before the matter was adjourned.
Delivering his ruling, Justice Umar noted that the charge was filed on November 27, 2025, while proceedings commenced on December 4.
The judge said Adeyemi had appeared before the court only once since the charge was filed and had subsequently missed four consecutive court dates.
Justice Umar consequently ordered security agencies to arrest and produce Adeyemi before the court on September 30 for arraignment.
