Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang said ongoing remodelling of key state-owned facilities will position Plateau to host international sporting events and attract global investors.
The governor made this known on Thursday, July 16, 2026, during an inspection of the ongoing remodelling of the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Plateau Hotel and Hill Station Hotel in Jos, Plateau State.
Mutfwang said the projects form part of his administration’s broader strategy to revive the state’s sports, tourism and hospitality sectors to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and strengthen private sector investment.
Inspecting the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, the governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of work but directed contractors to increase the pace of construction to ensure the facility is ready before the next football season.
He said the upgraded stadium would meet international standards, promote grassroots sports development, nurture young talents and enable Plateau State to host national and international sporting competitions.
“We need more hands on site, particularly on the pitch. The contractor must take advantage of the August break to ensure the rains do not slow down the project,” Mutfwang said.
The governor also visited the Plateau Hotel and Hill Station Hotel projects, where he commended investors and contractors for the progress recorded despite initial challenges.
He attributed the advancement of both projects to the state’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, describing the arrangement as evidence that collaboration with private investors can successfully deliver critical public infrastructure.
Mutfwang said restoring the two historic facilities fulfils one of his administration’s commitments to recover Plateau State’s legacy assets, noting that the Hill Station Hotel had remained closed for nearly eight years.
According to him, the investors have assured the government that the first phase of both projects will be completed by October 1, 2026.
He said the completion of the hotels would strengthen Plateau’s tourism sector, boost conference and business activities, create employment opportunities and improve the state’s appeal to local and international investors.
The governor added that visible progress on the projects sends a positive signal that Plateau State is open for business and has created an enabling environment for investment.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing security challenges through collaboration with security agencies and communities, expressing confidence that Plateau would become safer, more prosperous and economically competitive.
The governor was received at the project sites by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Plateau Investment and Property Development Company (PIPC), Hon. Danlami Jelka, who briefed him on the progress of the projects.
