The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations is excited to announce that Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, will serve as the keynote speaker at this year’s Annual General Meeting and Public Lecture. Scheduled for Saturday, December 7th, the event will be held at Stonehedge Hotel in Kaduna.
The minister will present a paper titled: “Tax Reform: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance.” This topic holds significant relevance in light of the ongoing discussions surrounding the federal government’s tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly.
According to Haroun Malami, Chairman of the Chapter, the selected theme aims to create a collaborative platform for dialogue and to enhance understanding of critical national issues. The event will also feature a distinguished lead discussant, Prof. Mustapha Baguio Muhammad, Head of the Accounting Department at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Additionally, the panel will include prominent figures such as Human Rights Activist Senator Shehu Sani, Prof. Cosmas Eze from the Mass Communication Department at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Prof. Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf of Kaduna State University.
This year’s event promises to be impactful, as it will be broadcast live across major radio and television networks in the country. This format allows for greater engagement among Nigerians on the essential topic of tax reform and its potential impact on the national economy.
Additionally, the Federal Government’s recent initiative to introduce a new tax law—offering rate reductions and complete exemption from Withholding Tax for many businesses, including SMEs with an annual turnover not exceeding N25 million—underscores the significance of gatherings like the Kaduna NIPR AGM. These discussions provide a crucial opportunity for stakeholders to explore and comprehend the implications of tax reform for the nation’s economic landscape.
