The United Middle Belt Development Forum (UMBDF) USA has blamed persistent government security failures for the violence in Plateau State and called for a strategic alliance with the Berom Diaspora Coalition (BDC) USA.
The position was contained in a condolence letter dated July 16, 2026, addressed to the President of the Berom Diaspora Coalition USA, Rev. Dr. John Haruna, and signed by the Secretary of UMBDF USA, Diamond Longjel.
In the letter, UMBDF conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the Berom Nation and communities affected by the recurring attacks, saying the violence has continued to inflict immense suffering, displacement and loss of lives across Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt region.
The forum said it stands in solidarity with the Berom Diaspora Coalition and commended its efforts in advocating for victims and supporting communities devastated by the prolonged insecurity.
According to UMBDF, the worsening humanitarian and security situation requires a united and coordinated response among Middle Belt organisations, stressing that collaboration is essential to advancing advocacy and securing lasting solutions.
The organisation expressed deep concern over what it described as the continued failure of both the federal and state governments to provide adequate protection for vulnerable communities, insisting that the constitutional right to life and security must never be compromised.
It argued that when governments consistently fail to safeguard citizens from repeated attacks, affected communities are often compelled to consider lawful measures of self-preservation, while reiterating the urgent need for comprehensive security reforms capable of protecting lives and restoring public confidence.
UMBDF further stated that it is prepared to work closely with the Berom Diaspora Coalition USA to strengthen advocacy, mobilise support for affected communities and pursue sustainable solutions to the insecurity confronting Plateau State and the Middle Belt.
The forum also expressed its willingness to meet with the leadership of the Berom Diaspora Coalition at the earliest opportunity to explore areas of collaboration and maximise the impact of their collective efforts.
