The Mangu Project has issued a formal apology to the Ngas Nation following the attack on the convoy of the Ngolong Ngas in Sabon Gari, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement released on Sunday May 3rd 2026, the group expressed “sincere regrets” over the May 1st incident, describing it as deeply unfortunate and inconsistent with the values of respect for traditional institutions upheld by the people of Mangu.
The organisation unequivocally condemned the attack, stressing that it was neither deliberate nor an act of hostility toward the Ngas Nation, with whom it said Mangu shares a long history of peaceful coexistence.
According to the statement, the incident occurred amid a tense and volatile situation in Sabon Gari, following earlier attacks by Fulani terrorists that left several youths dead and others injured. The unrest reportedly escalated as aggrieved residents confronted security operatives, leading to further casualties.
“It was within this atmosphere of confusion and heightened emotions that the unfortunate encounter with the convoy of His Majesty occurred,” the statement noted, adding that the vehicle was not immediately identified due to a covered number plate.
While acknowledging concerns raised by the Ngas Development Association (NDA), the Mangu Project called for calm, restraint, and dialogue to prevent further escalation and preserve intercommunal relations.
The group also urged the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to urgently review the security architecture in Mangu and across Plateau State. It recommended a shift from military checkpoint duties to a community-centered policing approach led by the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The statement further called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident to ensure accountability and forestall future occurrences.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, justice, and unity, the Mangu Project said the incident should serve as a turning point toward strengthening harmony among communities in the state.
