The Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) has warned political parties, candidates and campaign organisations against displaying campaign posters and other outdoor advertisements at unauthorised locations across the Jos metropolis.
The Board issued the warning in a public notice signed by its General Manager, Arc. Hart Bankat, as preparations intensify for the 2026–2027 election campaign period.
According to JMDB, the notice was directed to the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Plateau State Office, and other relevant stakeholders as part of efforts to enforce regulations governing political campaign advertising.
The Board said the posting or pasting of posters on public infrastructure is prohibited under Plateau State Executive Order No. 003 of 2024, which provides for the control of buildings and vehicular traffic in the state.
JMDB specifically listed public buildings, bridges, road infrastructure, utility poles, traffic structures, street furniture and trees among locations where political posters, banners and other campaign materials must not be displayed.
It further warned that political posters, banners, billboards, branded structures, signage and other outdoor campaign advertising materials must not be erected or displayed without prior approval from the appropriate regulatory authority.
“All proposed advertising locations shall be duly assessed and approved, and the applicable permit obtained, before any campaign material is deployed,” the Board said.
JMDB added that only approved and allocated advertising locations, including existing designated locations available for political advertising, may be used during the campaign period.
The Board warned that violations would attract enforcement action and applicable sanctions under Executive Order No. 003 of 2024 and other relevant regulations.
It said the Executive Order provides a ₦500,000 penalty for posting posters on public infrastructure.
JMDB said strict compliance was necessary to protect public infrastructure, preserve the aesthetics of the city, ensure public safety and maintain an orderly campaign environment.
The Board urged ARCON, political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners and campaign organisations to sensitise their members, agents and affiliates to the regulations.
It also said it would continue monitoring outdoor political advertising activities within its jurisdiction and take appropriate enforcement action against violators.
The notice was signed by Arc. Hart Bankat, General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board.
