The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the final phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, set to run from May 11 to July 10, 2026, as the country prepares for its next electoral cycle.
The exercise follows the suspension of the second phase on April 17 to allow the commission clean up and verify the voter register after a period of public claims and objections. Officials say the process is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
During the final phase, eligible citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier registration periods, are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to register. INEC also advised registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, correct personal details, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to either visit its offices nationwide or use the designated online portal.
The commission added that the updated voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny from July 23 to July 29, providing citizens the opportunity to file claims and objections in line with statutory requirements aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency.
In a statement issued on May 5, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said all necessary arrangements have been put in place for a seamless exercise, urging Nigerians to participate actively in strengthening the country’s democratic process.

With the deadline approaching, attention is now on the commission’s ability to drive participation and expand the voter base in a nation where turnout remains a key concern in electoral legitimacy.
