The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to rehabilitating and protecting displaced Nigerians across the country.
Speaking to journalists in Jos on Monday, Doro said his ministry’s mandate is to transform hope into reality for the poor, displaced, and vulnerable.
“We will pursue humanitarian response not as charity, but as a right and a responsibility of government,” he stated.
The minister outlined his strategic priorities to include strengthening social protection systems, expanding access to poverty alleviation programmes, and ensuring that humanitarian support reaches those who truly need it.
According to him, the ministry’s focus is to build a transparent and accountable system that delivers measurable impact.
“Every intervention must translate into food on the table, roofs over heads, children in school, and livelihoods restored,” he said.
Doro pledged to collaborate with state governments, local communities, development partners, traditional institutions, and faith-based organisations to create a seamless humanitarian network nationwide.
Highlighting Plateau State’s potential as a model for inclusive humanitarian action, he said:
“Plateau, with its diverse communities and resilient people, will serve as a model state — where every displaced person is accounted for, every vulnerable household supported, and every youth empowered with skills and opportunities.”
He further described his appointment as a collective responsibility, assuring Plateau citizens of a people-focused ministry driven by compassion and results.
“This appointment is not mine alone — it is ours. Together, we will show that Plateau can lead the way in humanitarian leadership, social inclusion, and compassionate governance,” Doro said.
The minister also emphasised partnership and transparency, calling on journalists, civil society, and development partners to work with the ministry in rebuilding lives and restoring dignity.
“I stand before you not as one who knows it all, but as one ready to listen, learn, and serve. With God’s help and your support, we will deliver a ministry that restores dignity, rebuilds communities, and renews hope,” he concluded.
