At least two security operatives were killed and their service rifles stolen after gunmen suspected to be Fulani terrorists ambushed a joint security patrol in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 4th August 2026 along the Ganawuri-Sabon Gida road, where four operatives from two security locations had mounted a roadblock.
Security sources told journalists that the operatives were returning to their respective duty posts after completing the operation when two of them failed to arrive.
Their colleagues reportedly launched an immediate search for the missing personnel, eventually discovering the bodies of the two operatives at the scene of the attack.
The attackers were said to have fled with the victims’ service rifles, while the motorcycle used by the operatives was recovered at the scene.
Following the attack, security personnel reportedly commenced cordon-and-search operations across surrounding communities in an effort to apprehend the attackers and recover the stolen weapons.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the slain operatives had not been officially disclosed.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, and the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful.
The attack comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, with security agencies intensifying operations to prevent attacks and track down criminal elements operating in vulnerable communities.
