Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday visited communities attacked in Barkin Ladi and Bassa local government areas, where he vowed that perpetrators of the killings would be tracked down and punished.
During a sympathy visit to Nding community in Barkin Ladi LGA, the governor met with widows, children, and survivors displaced by the recent violence, assuring residents that his administration would not abandon them.
“Nding community will not go down,” Mutfwang declared as he pledged stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities across the state.
The governor, accompanied by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, said the government had intensified coordination with security agencies to contain the attacks and restore calm.
Speaking at a strategic security meeting held at Gwol Motel in Barkin Ladi, attended by religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and community representatives, Mutfwang announced fresh restrictions aimed at curbing insecurity.
He reiterated the ban on night mining, directing all mining activities to end by 5 p.m. daily. The governor also banned night grazing and prohibited underage grazing, warning livestock owners and parents to ensure proper supervision of herders.
“The life of every Plateau citizen is precious, and we will do everything within our power to protect our people,” he said.
Mutfwang further warned that any security personnel found complicit in the attacks would face investigation and prosecution.
The governor also appealed to residents not to lose hope as the planting season approaches, assuring farmers that security would be strengthened in farming communities while fertilizer distribution would be subsidized to support agricultural production.
In Bassa LGA, Mutfwang visited Ngbrazongo village in Kwall District of Irigwe Chiefdom, where several residents were recently killed in another attack. He sympathized with affected families and promised additional security deployments to prevent further violence.
Minister Doro assured victims of Federal Government support through humanitarian assistance and recovery interventions.
Community leaders, including the Plateau Youth Council, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and traditional rulers in Barkin Ladi, commended the governor for his swift response and commitment to peacebuilding efforts across the state.
