Residents of Rewienku Village in the Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt, have accused Fulani militias of destroying more than eight hectares of farmland in a fresh attack on farming communities in the area.
According to community sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, when the attackers invaded farmlands and mowed down large portions of cultivated crops, leaving farmers devastated and deepening fears over growing insecurity in the region.
The affected residents described the destruction as a direct assault on their means of survival, lamenting that beyond repeated killings and violent attacks, farming communities are now witnessing systematic destruction of their sources of livelihood.
Community members expressed frustration over what they described as the continued absence of arrests and prosecution of those responsible for recurring violence in parts of Plateau State.
“This is continuous terrorism on our land and against our people. They do not only kill us; they also destroy our means of livelihood,” a local resident said.
The latest incident adds to mounting concerns over persistent attacks rising tensions across communities in Plateau State, where residents have repeatedly called on security agencies and authorities to take decisive action to end the violence and ensure accountability for perpetrators.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Plateau State Government had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
