Fulani militia terrorists holding at least 176 people in Kaiama Local Government Area have rejected ₦155 million raised by families and threatened to forcibly marry female captives and kill others.
The victims have been held for nearly six months.
Speaking on BBC Hausa, Kaiama indigene Abdul Ibrahim said residents contributed more than ₦155 million to free the abductees. The kidnappers refused the payment.
According to Ibrahim, the abductors warned they would force “beautiful” female captives into marriage and execute the remaining hostages if their demands were not met.
He appealed to the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and security agencies to intensify rescue operations. He said families had exhausted all options and peaceful protests failed to attract government intervention.
Dan Sardaukin Kaiama, Suleiman Bukata, urged the Federal Government to replicate the recent rescue operation in Oyo State. 39 pupils and 7 teachers abducted in Oriire were freed July 10 after 56 days.
Bukata said the Oyo rescue rekindled hope. “Every additional day in captivity increases the danger faced by the victims”.
Senator Adamu Aliero said inadequate funding is not the reason for persistent attacks in northern Nigeria. He said the National Assembly has approved security funding and reiterated support for state police to enable governors respond to local threats.
