A former Plateau State Commissioner for Works, Aminu Zang, has rejected his appointment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council, declaring his continued loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Zang, whose name appeared as number 254 on the published list of the APC Campaign Council’s Central Planning Committee, said he was neither consulted nor informed before his inclusion.
He disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday titled, “Clarification on My Inclusion in the 2027 Plateau State Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council – Central Planning Committee.”
In the statement, Zang described himself as an unrepentant and committed member of the PDP, while expressing appreciation to those who considered him worthy of the appointment.
He said, “While I sincerely appreciate those who considered me worthy of inclusion and deemed me suitable for the responsibilities associated with this important assignment, I wish to state, unequivocally and without any ambiguity, that I remain an unrepentant and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of the RAINBOW COALITION extraction.”
Speaking in a telephone interview, Zang reiterated that his name was included in the APC campaign council without his knowledge or consent.
“They didn’t consult me. I’m not angry, so to speak. But, if you read the statement that I issued, I thanked those who felt that I was worthy of inclusion in the campaign council list,” he said.
He maintained that his membership of the PDP made it impossible for him to serve on the campaign council of another political party.
“Unfortunately for them, I am a bona fide member of the PDP. So, I cannot belong to the PDP and now be in the APC campaign council team. I cannot,” he added.
Clarifying his political position ahead of the 2027 general elections, Zang disclosed that while he supported President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, he would not support the APC governorship candidate in Plateau State.
“I am supporting Wike’s position that Tinubu returns, but for the governor, no way. I’m in the PDP,” he said.
He also declared support for the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, insisting that his political allegiance remained with the opposition party.
“Of course, we have a candidate in the PDP, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik,” he stated.
Asked whether the PDP had constituted its campaign council ahead of the elections, Zang said the party was yet to do so but was working towards establishing one.
Meanwhile, the former commissioner called on political stakeholders to approach the 2027 electoral process with maturity, mutual respect and a sense of responsibility.
“The electoral process should be approached with maturity, mutual respect and a strong sense of responsibility,” he said.
He urged political parties, supporters and members of the public to embrace peace, tolerance, civility and political decorum, while seeking God’s guidance for a peaceful electoral process.
