At least five Christians were killed in separate attacks across Plateau State on Saturday, July 4th 2026, as suspected Fulani ethnic militias attacked a farm in Riyom Local Government Area and ambushed a Christian Youths in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The attacks occurred in Tahoss community of Riyom Local Government Area and Sabon-Layi in Gwol town of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The incidents were disclosed by Dala Nanpet Danladi, a volunteer with the International Committee on Nigeria (ICON).
In Tahoss, the attackers struck at about 2 p.m., killing two women and injuring another one while they were working on their farm.
Hours later, at about 10 p.m., three young Christian men were killed after suspected Fulani ethnic militias, who had reportedly laid an ambush, opened fire on them in Sabon-Layi, less than one kilometre away from the Sector Four Area Command in the heart of Barkin Ladi town.
The victims were said to have been monitoring their community amid the worsening security situation when they came under attack.
The latest killings came barely a week after Daniel Pulle, 58, the Community Leader of Gana-Ropp in Ropp District of Barkin Ladi LGA, was ambushed and shot dead while riding his motorcycle home on June 28.
On the same day, Deborah Benjamin Kak of Lwa village in Riyom LGA died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital from gunshot wounds she sustained during an earlier attack on her community on June 26, highlighting the persistent wave of violence across parts of Plateau State.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Government and security agencies had yet to issue any official statement on the July 4 attacks.
