BREAKING: Two Killed, Seven Injured in Plateau Road Crash

By Faith Chondol

Atleast two persons have been killed and seven others injured after a commercial tricycle caught fire in a road crash at Sabon Barki, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Sunday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the casualties, saying the accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. and involved a commercial tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, conveying a family returning from church.

The FRSC Public Education Officer in Plateau State, Mr Peter Longsan, said the two deceased victims were male adults who became trapped beneath the vehicle following the crash.

Longsan also alleged that the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene.

“The accident was a bad one. Two persons died, a male adult and another male; they were trapped under the vehicle. The bus driver that caused the accident ran away. It is rather unfortunate,” he told journalists.

He confirmed that seven persons sustained injuries in the incident and urged motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road crashes.

An eyewitness, Mr Kefas Gyang, told Journalists in Jos that the tricycle caught fire following a collision with another vehicle.

Gyang said he arrived at the scene after the incident and found people crying and attempting to rescue the victims from the burning tricycle.

“I was passing by on my way from work when I saw people crying. I went closer to find out what had happened and saw people trying to rescue the victims,” he said.

“But the fire was too much for us to handle. It was beyond our strength, and we could not do much to rescue them from the burning tricycle.”

The eyewitness clarified that he did not witness the collision itself but arrived after the crash had occurred.

“When the other vehicle hit the Keke, I was not there. I only came across the scene afterwards and saw people crying,” he added.

He also alleged that the driver of the other vehicle fled after the incident.

The crash reportedly left the wife of one of the deceased with a broken leg, while two children and the tricycle rider were taken to hospital for treatment.

The FRSC urged motorists to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution on the roads to reduce the risk of accidents and prevent further loss of lives.
