BREAKING: Tinubu Insists There Is No Genocide in Nigeria

Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated that Nigeria is not experiencing a genocide against either Christians or Muslims.

He made the clarification while declaring open the 8th Biennial Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT) in Abuja on Friday.

Represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, the President described recent genocide allegations as unfounded, harmful, and capable of provoking unnecessary tension. He emphasized that Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in terrorism, criminality, and extremism—not religious persecution.

Tinubu noted that both Christians and Muslims have suffered at the hands of terrorists and stand united in condemning violence. He stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring national unity, religious freedom, and the security of every citizen.

“The Nigerian state does not promote or tolerate any policy aimed at persecuting any religious group,” he said. “As President, I reaffirm that there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria, and there is no Muslim genocide in Nigeria.”

He urged Nigerians to resist divisive narratives from within and outside the country, adding that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence.

The President also highlighted ongoing economic reforms meant to stabilize the economy, attract investments, and create opportunities. While acknowledging the temporary hardship these reforms may bring, he assured citizens that his administration is working to ease the pressure and improve security nationwide.

Keynote speaker Dr. Nurudeen Lemu encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient, urging faith communities to work together in promoting national development. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, also praised NASFAT for its contributions and called for continued unity and understanding.
