BREAKING: Plateau Police Ban Keke Operations in Jos

By Faith Chondol

The Plateau State Police Command has imposed a one-day ban on the operation of tricycles, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, across Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

The ban takes effect Tuesday, Aug. 25, during the Eid Maulud celebration, the command said in a statement issued Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the restriction was introduced as part of security measures to prevent criminal activities, reckless driving and other offences.

Police Commissioner Ayodeji Faniyan urged tricycle operators and residents to comply with the directive, assuring the public of adequate security deployment.

He said personnel would be deployed to major roads, prayer grounds and public places to maintain law and order before, during and after the celebration.

Faniyan also warned police officers against using the restriction to extort money from tricycle operators.

The command advised riders who are apprehended not to give money to officers demanding it, but to report such incidents immediately.

The police said the existing ban on motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, remains in force across Jos-Bukuru metropolis and areas covered by the Jos Master Plan.

The Eid Maulud celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25.
