PLATEAU STATE – A powerful thunderbolt during a heavy downpour has reportedly struck and killed fifteen cows in the Kafi’habu community of Gindin Akwati Ward, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The cows, reportedly owned by Fulani herders, were killed instantly by the lightning strike, and eyewitnesses confirmed. The unusual intensity of the thunderstorm left residents shocked, with some describing the incident as extraordinary.
“It was unlike anything we’ve seen,” said a community elder. “The thunder roared fiercely, and then we saw smoke rising from where the cattle had gathered.”
While experts attribute the event to natural meteorological phenomena, the symbolism has sparked varied reactions across a region that has experienced years of tension and conflict between farming communities and herders.
Community voices expressed both awe and reflection. “This is a moment to reflect on our shared humanity and the need for lasting peace,” said a local youth leader. “Whether by nature or fate, we must seek justice, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.”
The incident has reignited discussions about the urgent need to address longstanding issues of land disputes, security, and inter-communal relations in Plateau State.
Local leaders are urging calm and encouraging government authorities to investigate the incident while using the moment to advance dialogue and peacebuilding initiatives.
