The Och’Otukpo Odu, Chief John Eimonye, has ordered all herders to immediately leave Otukpo Kingdom following a deadly attack on a local community.
The directive was issued in Otukpo, Benue State, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, after armed Fulani herders attacked Nobi Village in Otukpo District, killing several residents.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Otukpo District Traditional Council, Chief Udeh Adole, the monarch said the continued presence of herders now poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of his people.
Chief Eimonye explained that the decision was not intended to profile or discriminate against any ethnic group but was a necessary step to protect lives and restore peace across the kingdom.
The traditional ruler expressed concern over recurring attacks linked to armed herders, lamenting that residents had repeatedly been left at the mercy of attackers.
He vowed that Otukpo District would not be taken over by any group or interest under his watch, stressing that the people remained determined to protect their ancestral communities.
The monarch also called on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and protect residents from further attacks.
The order followed the deadly assault on Nobi Village, which heightened tension and security concerns across Otukpo Kingdom.
