Amnesty International has condemned the killing of at least 30 people in a gunmen’s attack on Naridon Village in Kaduna State, describing the massacre as a horrific failure of authorities to protect civilians.
The rights organisation said the attack occurred on Sunday 26th July 2026 night in Naridon Village, Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where gunmen stormed the community, killing residents and razing homes.
In a statement release through it’s official Facebook page, Amnesty International Nigeria said dozens of residents who attempted to flee were pursued into nearby bushes and slaughtered, while many others remain missing as community members continue searching for survivors and recovering bodies from homes and surrounding farmlands.
The organisation warned that the death toll could rise as more bodies are being discovered within the community and on nearby farms.
According to Amnesty International, images obtained from the village showed entire families locked inside their bedrooms and killed during the attack. It said children were among the victims, with bloodstains found in bedrooms, kitchens and along paths used by residents who tried to escape.
The organisation described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks on communities in Southern Kaduna in recent years, noting that several villages in the area have suffered repeated assaults over the years.
Amnesty International said the continued wave of attacks reflects the Nigerian authorities’ failure to protect lives and ensure justice for victims, warning that the lack of accountability continues to fuel impunity.
The organisation also noted that despite President Bola Tinubu’s repeated assurances that security agencies had been directed to end the killings and restore peace to rural communities, the latest attack shows that residents remain vulnerable to deadly violence.
Amnesty International called on the Nigerian authorities to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation, bring those responsible to justice, and take urgent measures to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities in Southern Kaduna.
