At least 30 Christians including women and children were killed and dozens of homes burned to the ground when Fulani Ethnic Militias stormed Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna State late Sunday 26 July 2026.
The assailants attacked under cover of darkness by 11:30pm, opening fire on residents and setting houses ablaze as families fled into the night. By Monday morning 27th July 2026, the community was in mourning, with search and recovery efforts still underway.
Community sources Ibrahim John and Mallam Katuka told Journalists that the death toll could rise as more bodies were recovered. Residents said no fewer than 30 corpses had been found so far with at least seven injured who are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital due to security reasons.
Daniel Sunday lamented that soldiers stationed less than five miles from Naridon village failed to respond as the attack unfolded, allowing the Armed Fulani terrorists to move door-to-door through the village. He said attackers killed women and children inside their homes before destroying the buildings.
The attack is the latest in a pattern of violence that has gripped Southern Kaduna for years, part of a broader crisis of killings, village burnings, and mass abductions across Nigeria’s Middle Belt,a region spanning Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and neighboring states where farming communities have repeatedly come under assault.
It also follows closely on reports that at least eight hostages abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia Local Government Area died in captivity, after more than three months in the custody of their captors,underscoring how entrenched the insecurity across Southern Kaduna has become.
Residents and community leaders called on the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government, and security agencies to urgently deploy security reinforcements to the area and take decisive action to prevent further attacks.
