BREAKING: Amnesty International Condemns Kaduna Killings

Amnesty International on Tuesday condemned the killing of nine people in an attack on the Irigwe community of Angwan Magaji in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, saying the massacre highlights the failure of Nigerian authorities to protect lives.

The rights group said the victims of the June 16 attack in Angwan Magaji, Kamaru Ward, were buried amid tears after gunmen stormed the community at night, killing nine people and injuring 11 others.

According to Amnesty International, many of those unable to flee the attack, including children and elderly residents, were slaughtered and left in pools of blood by the attackers.

The organisation said the latest killings underscore the worsening security situation in parts of northern Nigeria despite repeated assurances by President Bola Tinubu’s administration that new security measures are being implemented to curb violence.

Amnesty International urged the Nigerian authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and effective investigation into the attack, bring those responsible to justice, and strengthen measures to protect vulnerable communities from recurring violence.

The organisation warned that continued attacks on rural communities, coupled with the failure to hold perpetrators accountable, would only deepen the cycle of insecurity and undermine public confidence in the government’s ability to safeguard lives and property.
