President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched a high-powered presidential delegation to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

The delegation, led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, includes the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police,Rilwan Disu; the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa; Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe; and the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications, Sunday Dare.

The team arrived in Ogbomoso on Sunday and is expected to visit the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota, where armed men reportedly carried out coordinated attacks on schools, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, abducting about 46 pupils and teachers.

The incident, which occurred in the Ogbomoso axis of Oyo State, has triggered widespread concern and renewed fears over the safety of schools and rural communities across the country.

Confirming the development, Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare said President Tinubu had activated a series of coordinated measures aimed at securing the release of the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“A powerful Presidential Delegation just arrived Ogbomoso en route to the villages of Esiele and Yawota where armed men simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary schools, seizing about 46 pupils and teachers,” Dare stated in a post on X.

According to him, the President has directed security agencies to intensify ongoing rescue operations and ensure those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.

The visit comes amid growing anxiety among residents and families of the abducted victims, who have continued to appeal to both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government for urgent intervention to secure the safe return of their loved ones.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to provide an official update on the whereabouts of the abductees, although efforts to rescue them were said to be ongoing.

The latest abduction has once again placed the spotlight on Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly the vulnerability of schools in remote communities to attacks by armed groups.
