The University of Jos has announced the resumption of its first semester examinations from April 13, 2026, following a temporary suspension triggered by security concerns in Plateau State.
The examinations, initially scheduled for April 1 and 2, were postponed after a deadly attack in the Angwa Rukuba community of Jos, where at least 28 Christians were killed by Islamic terrorist which heightening fears across the state capital.
In a statement issued on Friday, the university directed that all postponed examinations will now continue from Monday, April 13, starting with those earlier slated from March 30.
The statement, signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, said the decision followed a management meeting held on April 3, where the institution reviewed the security situation and its impact on students.
According to the university, the earlier disruption had necessitated an extension of the Easter break, allowing students to return home amid rising tensions.
University Management considered the effects of the heightened tensions and threat to the lives and safety of students and has directed that all examinations continue from Monday, 13th April 2026, the statement said.
The institution reassured students currently on campus of their safety, noting that security measures have been significantly strengthened in collaboration with relevant agencies.
Students were also urged to remain vigilant, exercise caution in their movements, and promptly report any suspicious activity to the university’s security division.
Meanwhile, the university confirmed that normal academic activities will fully resume on Tuesday, April 7.
Management is assuring the University community of its active collaboration with relevant security agencies to ensure that no breach of peace is tolerated, the statement added.
The announcement comes as tensions linger in Jos following recent violent attacks that have raised concerns over the safety of residents and students in the region.
