Two Killed, Two Injured in Night Attack on Plateau Community

At least two people were killed and two others injured when Fulani Ethnic Militias attacked Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State Nigeria Middle Belt region late Tuesday night, residents and local officials said.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community at about 10:30 p.m., firing shots indiscriminately for several minutes before fleeing into nearby bushes.

The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment, according to community sources.

Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), said the attack caused widespread panic among residents.

“Gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10 p.m. on Tuesday night and opened fire sporadically,” he said. “As of now, two people have been confirmed killed while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.”

He described the incident as part of a pattern of recurring violence affecting communities in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State.

Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

Attacks in rural communities in Plateau State have raised ongoing concerns about civilian protection and security response in the region.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, for official comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Riyom Local Government Area has experienced repeated incidents of violence in recent years, contributing to broader security challenges in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
