The Student Union Government (SUG) of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has confirmed the alleged kidnapping of Masok Jukur Yakubu, a 200-level student of the Department of Animal Science, sending shockwaves across the university community.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 6, 2025, and signed by the Union’s Public Relations Officer, Boniface ThankGod Gwotbit, the SUG revealed that the student was abducted on the night of Tuesday, November 5, 2025, from his residence at Jos Museum, an area close to downtown PLASU.
According to the statement, the SUG is in active communication with the university security unit, as well as relevant government security agencies, to ensure the safe and immediate release of the kidnapped student.
“The Student Union Government of Plateau State University regrets to announce that one of our students, Mr. Masok Jukur Yakubu, was allegedly kidnapped from his compound yesterday. We are working closely with the school security agency and government authorities to investigate the incident and ensure his safe return,” the statement read.
The SUG described the incident as a deeply distressing development, calling on all students to remain calm but vigilant as security efforts intensify.
As part of preventive measures, the Union issued a security advisory urging students to prioritize their safety, especially during late hours. The advisory emphasized the need for students to:
Remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times.
Avoid moving alone, particularly at night.
Walk in groups and use well-lit routes.
Carry security whistles or other devices to raise alarm in emergencies.
The Union also appealed to students to report any suspicious movements or persons within and around the campus to security officials or student leaders immediately.
Beyond the call for vigilance, the SUG requested collective prayers for the safe return of Yakubu, describing him as a “peaceful and dedicated student whose absence is deeply felt by his peers and lecturers.”
“We join his family, friends, and the entire PLASU community in praying for his safe return. This is a time for unity, caution, and faith,” the SUG PRO added.
The incident marks another worrying case in the rising wave of insecurity affecting students across Nigerian universities, with concerns mounting over the safety of students who live off-campus.
As of the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, and the Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, security operatives and university authorities are said to be working tirelessly to trace the whereabouts of the abducted student and ensure his safe return.
