Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has expressed concern over the recent criticisms made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, towards former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili.
During a Special Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday, Wike referred to Odili as an ‘ingrate’ and a ‘rent seeker,’ criticizing him for allegedly aligning with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
In response to Wike’s comments, Frank issued a statement from Abuja, highlighting the need for reflection on political loyalties and the consequences of public outbursts. He emphasized that Wike’s remarks reveal a pattern of strained relationships with past allies and benefactors.
Frank commented, “Wike’s recent criticisms of Odili demonstrate a notable shift in political alliances, which invites us to consider how quickly friendships can evolve in politics. This pattern of behavior is not new, as there have been instances in the past where Wike has distanced himself from those who once supported him.”
He continued by referencing how Wike’s relationship with former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi has evolved over time. Frank noted that in 2023, Wike’s decisions seemingly favored destabilizing his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which raises questions about his political strategies.
Frank urged political leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, to approach their relationships with caution, stressing, “It’s essential to nurture alliances based on mutual respect and trust. Those in positions of influence need to be mindful of the dynamics at play and the potential for dramatic shifts in loyalty.”
In concluding his statement, Frank encouraged a more constructive dialogue around political collaboration, urging all parties to focus on common goals rather than personal agendas. He stressed that the future of political relationships will depend on the commitment to transparency and fidelity in alliances.
This call for careful reflection serves as a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of politics, where trust and loyalty are invaluable.
