Residents of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State are living in fear as armed groups known as Fulani bandits have been attacking their villages.
Witnesses report that these bandits, often accompanied by cattle, have been invading homes and farms, leaving families worried for their safety. A villager from Tse Ujah shared, “They are ruining our crops, and we are scared every day.”
The bandit attacks have been mostly reported in areas like Tse Ujah, Ule, Ikpajov, and Tse Ikyume, near Akpuuna 2. A local named Orshi is said to be leading these attacks. According to some sources, he was seen in the area pretending to shop for oranges but was spying on residents.
In response to the violence, community members are calling on the government to send security forces to help protect them. A resident from Mbatian village stated, “We urge the government to act quickly and safeguard us from these attackers.”
Local leaders, including Hon. Modi, the Chairman of the Ukum Local Government Council, are being asked to step in and provide assistance. So far, the Benue State Government has not released any statements regarding the situation.
