AAC Demands Answers as Stolen Phone From Sowore’s Team Is Reportedly Traced to Ekiti Governor’s Lodge

The African Action Congress (AAC) has demanded an independent investigation after alleging that a phone stolen during an attack on Omoyele Sowore’s team in Ado-Ekiti was traced to the Ekiti State Governor’s Lodge.

In a press statement dated November 1, 2026, the party called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, to explain how the device reportedly ended up at the lodge and who currently possesses it.

The allegation follows an attack on Sowore and members of his team on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The AAC described the incident as an attempted assassination and questioned whether those responsible for the attack had any connections to individuals within the state government.

However, the party did not provide publicly verifiable evidence in its statement to establish how the phone was traced to the lodge or who allegedly had possession of it.

The AAC also accused the police of withholding CCTV footage from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where the attack reportedly occurred, and demanded the immediate preservation and public release of the complete, unedited recordings from the restaurant and surrounding premises.

It urged the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to explain who had taken custody of the footage, where it was being kept and why it had not been made public.

The party further questioned the security arrangements preceding the attack, alleging that Governor Oyebanji’s Chief Security Officer, CSP Ayodele Akinlua, had warned of threats to Sowore’s safety hours before the incident.

It demanded an explanation of what authorities knew about the reported threats, what preventive measures were taken and whether any connection existed between the warning and the subsequent attack.

The AAC also raised concerns about what it described as contradictory accounts of the incident and the reported arrest of 11 suspects, calling for clarification from the police commissioner.

The demands come amid heightened scrutiny of the authorities’ handling of the attack and the investigation into those responsible.

The party outlined six demands, including the public release of the CCTV footage, an independent investigation into the reported location of the stolen phone, and an explanation from the governor concerning the alleged advance security warning.

It also called for an account from the police commissioner regarding the handling of the footage, the reported arrests and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Additionally, the AAC demanded an independent investigation into the attackers, their alleged sponsors and any possible involvement of government or security officials, as well as the arrest and prosecution of anyone found culpable.

The statement was signed by Rex I. Elanu, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, who warned that the AAC would oppose any attempt to conceal evidence or undermine accountability.

The governor, the police commissioner and the DSS were asked to address the allegations raised in the statement. Their responses were not included in the statement provided for this report.

The circumstances surrounding the reported tracing of the phone, the status of the CCTV footage and the identities and roles of those responsible for the attack remain matters requiring independent verification.
