The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects over the attack on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore and members of his entourage in Ado-Ekiti.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during a raid on their hideouts in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti at about 10pm on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 31 2026.

According to the statement, the operation followed a credible tip-off regarding the alleged attack on Sowore and other persons at Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area of the state capital.

The arrested suspects were identified as Joseph Tayo, 32; Olatunji Abayomi, 41; Isaac Amba, 22; Kehinde Ajigbana, 18; Tosin David, 18; Solomon Iyanu, 18; Ogunsola Ayomide, 21; Ojo Ayodeji, 22; Kayode Dada, 32; Segun Olatunji, 28; and Salami Emmanuel, 53.

Items reportedly recovered during the operation included two walkie-talkies, 13 mobile phones, seven ATM cards, eight international passports, two vehicle keys and a 5G MTN Wi-Fi device.

Other recovered items included substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Colorado, two Indian hemp crushers, a pack of Rizla, a flash drive, identity cards, three complimentary cards, two suspected criminal charms, a gas lighter and ₦250.

The police said the suspects were in custody, while investigations were ongoing to establish their individual roles, determine their possible connections with the attack and identify other persons involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Falade Michael, assured residents that the command would ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.

The arrests followed disagreements between Sowore and the police over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While the police initially described the incident as an altercation involving Sowore and some individuals, the AAC presidential aspirant rejected the account, insisting that armed men had carried out a coordinated attack on him and his entourage.

Sowore also accused the police of downplaying the incident and alleged that the attackers beat him and threatened to kill him.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed that Sowore and the other victims had received medical attention and were discharged from the hospital.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ekiti State, irrespective of political affiliations.
