Sowore Accuses DSS, Ekiti Government House of Backing Attack on Him

By Faith Chondol

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) and individuals linked to the Ekiti State Government House of sponsoring an attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore made the allegation on Friday, October 30, 2026, following an attack shortly after he concluded a radio interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

In a series of posts on social media, the human rights activist alleged that the attackers were political thugs who came from the Government House and received tracking and operational support from DSS operatives.

He also claimed that DSS operatives had been monitoring his movements and harassing people who provided services to him and his associates since their arrival in the state on Thursday.

According to Sowore, the operatives allegedly threatened the manager of a facility where his team had earlier eaten, warning him against allowing them to use the premises again.

Describing Friday’s incident, Sowore said the attackers descended on him and his associates shortly after his radio interview, alleging that the DSS provided assistance.

Sowore Faults Police Over Description of Attack

The AAC presidential candidate also criticised the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, for describing the incident as an altercation and the injuries sustained by the victims as minor.

Sowore alleged that the commissioner personally visited the location where he and other victims were receiving emergency medical attention and saw their injuries before the police issued its statement.

Rejecting the police account, he insisted that the incident was a coordinated attack rather than an altercation.

He further alleged that the police command’s description of the injuries as minor was an attempt to downplay the seriousness of the incident.

Sowore also claimed that a video circulating after the incident showed the commissioner leaving the emergency room after examining the victims.

AAC Campaign Demands Investigation

Meanwhile, the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign organisation has called on security agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the attack and provide adequate protection for the AAC candidate.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Abdulkareem Musa, the campaign described the incident as a serious security concern and urged the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take immediate action.

The campaign demanded a security assessment, appropriate protective measures and a thorough investigation to establish those responsible.

It also warned that political disagreements must not be turned into violence, intimidation or attacks against citizens exercising their democratic rights.

Sowore is seeking the presidency in the 2027 general election under the platform of the AAC.

His visit to Ekiti State was part of his political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
