The Police Command in Taraba has confirmed that 10 people were killed when gunmen attacked Binnari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the death toll, while local sources reported that more than 20 people were killed, with several others missing.
Residents said the attackers invaded the community, located along the boundary between Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State and Plateau State, at about 2:00a.m.
According to a resident who plead anonymity, the gunmen initially killed people from house to house before opening fire.
“They came and were quietly killing people from door to door before they started shooting,” the resident said.
The source added that the attackers burnt down the entire community, killed more than 20 people and left several others missing in nearby bushes.
The conflicting death tolls could not be independently reconciled from the information available.
The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of residents in the border community.
