The Plateau State Government has condemned an alleged attack involving Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) officials while carrying out their duties along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transport Hon. Jatau Davou Gyang , the government described the incident as a serious affront to constituted authority and called on security agencies to investigate the matter.
The call followed a video circulating on social media showing an altercation involving the officials during what the ministry said was an official assignment.
The government urged the relevant security agencies to identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full consequences of the law.
It warned that violence, intimidation or obstruction of government officials performing their statutory responsibilities would not be tolerated.
The ministry also stressed that no individual or group had the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of perceived provocation or grievances against government officials.
“Any grievance against government officials should be addressed through lawful and appropriate channels,” the statement said.
The government consequently appealed to residents to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid actions capable of disrupting public order or obstructing officials in the discharge of their duties.
It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting government personnel and ensuring that public officials can carry out their statutory responsibilities without violence or intimidation.
The government’s position comes amid growing public attention to the incident following the circulation of the video online, with authorities now calling for an official investigation to establish what transpired and determine responsibility.
