Anger is mounting in Mangu Plateau State Nigeria’s Middle Belt following the reported killing of Comrade Fwangshak Dawuk, Secretary of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM), Mangu Halle District.
The youth leader was reportedly killed at Jakatai, Mangu LGA, during a tense security incident after local youths allegedly confronted attackers invading Arangai village, according to the MYM.
The movement alleges that soldiers opened fire on the youths, killing Dawuk in the process.
Now, the biggest question demanding an answer is simple:
How did a man who reportedly stood with his community against an attack end up allegedly losing his life to the very security forces deployed to protect citizens?
If established, the allegation would raise grave concerns about the use of force, civilian protection and accountability in a region already traumatised by repeated attacks.
The MYM is demanding an independent, transparent and credible investigation to establish exactly what happened at Jakatai and determine who should be held responsible.
The movement has also appealed to youths to remain calm and law-abiding despite the anger and grief surrounding the incident.
The allegation has not been independently verified. The circumstances of Dawuk’s death remain subject to investigation, and the military has yet to publicly respond to the allegation.
When a citizen dies in an encounter involving security forces, the public deserves the truth—not silence, speculation or a cover-up.
Who killed Fwangshak Dawuk? What happened at Jakatai? And will there be a truly independent investigation?
Mangu deserves answers.
