A Department of State Services (DSS) operative has told a Plateau State High Court that a key suspect standing trial over the deadly Angwan Rukuba attack allegedly confessed to leading more than 100 armed men in violent attacks across several communities in Plateau state.
The revelation emerged on Friday 19th June 2026 during proceedings before Justice Danladi Longden in Jos the Plateau State Capital, as the prosecution continued presenting evidence against five men accused of involvement in the Palm Sunday killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
The lead defendant, Adamu Alhassan Isa, popularly known as Shagari Bangai, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, and illegal dealing in arms and ammunition alongside four other suspects.
According to the DSS witness, Isa made a confessional statement in which he allegedly admitted participating in multiple attacks and leading more than 100 armed men during assaults on communities in Vom and parts of Riyom Local Government Area.
The witness further told the court that investigators discovered over N4 million in Isa’s bank account during the course of investigations. Prosecutors believe the funds may be connected to terrorism financing activities, although the matter remains before the court.
The Plateau State Government had earlier arraigned Isa alongside Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, popularly called Yaroro, and Ado Ibrahim, who is currently at large.
During cross-examination, defence counsel Mustapha Shaba requested certified true copies of statements obtained from both the arresting and investigating officers. He argued that the defence needed the documents to compare them with photocopies previously supplied by the prosecution in preparation for the trial.
Justice Longden granted the request and adjourned proceedings until July 3, directing the prosecution to make the necessary documents available before the continuation of the hearing.
The case is one of the high-profile prosecutions linked to recurring violence in Plateau State, where authorities have intensified efforts to bring perpetrators of deadly attacks to justice amid persistent security challenges.
As the trial progresses, attention remains focused on the court’s examination of the evidence and the allegations surrounding one of the state’s most devastating recent attacks.
