Bandits have reportedly abducted a former Nigerian Army spokesperson, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife in Katsina State.
The incident was said to have occurred along the Matazu axis while the retired senior military officer and his wife were travelling to Katsina.
According to a security source, the armed attackers intercepted the couple’s vehicle and forcefully whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The source disclosed that the driver of the vehicle was shot during the attack but managed to escape with his life despite sustaining injuries.
“The assailants stopped the vehicle and abducted the retired general and his wife. The driver was shot but escaped,” the source said.
The vehicle involved in the incident, a red Peugeot 504, was later recovered and taken to the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian military nor the Katsina State Police Command had issued an official statement regarding the abduction.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Katsina State, where cases of kidnapping and banditry have continued to pose significant security challenges.
