The National Association of Ron-Kukere Students (NARKS), Plateau State University Bokkos (PLASU) Chapter, has strongly condemned the abduction of one of its members, Masok Jukur Yakubu, a 200-level student of the Department of Animal Science.
According to a statement issued by the association’s president, Comr. Fuki Christian Daniel, the incident occurred on Tuesday, November 5, 2025, at Across area, sparking fear and anxiety within the PLASU community.
“The unfortunate incident has left the entire university deeply distressed. This act is not only criminal but also an affront to the peace and safety that our university community strives to uphold,” the statement read.
NARKS called on the Plateau State Government, security agencies, and the university management to intensify efforts to secure the immediate and safe release of the abducted student, whose captors are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦10 million.
To curb the rising insecurity affecting students, the association recommended several proactive measures, including:
1. Increased Security Presence: Deployment of more security personnel around student hostels and off-campus areas, especially at night.
2. Campus–Community Collaboration: Strengthened coordination between the university’s security unit and local vigilante groups for quicker emergency response.
3. Student Safety Programs: Regular security awareness campaigns, self-defense training, and introduction of local security outfits such as Neighborhood Watch, Man O’ War, and the Nigerian Hunters Team.
4. Emergency Communication Channels: Establishment of a 24-hour hotline for students to report suspicious activities.
5. Improved Lighting: Completion of the university’s electrification project to reduce night-time exposure of students who go out to read or charge devices.
Comr. Daniel urged students to remain calm, vigilant, and united, assuring that NARKS stands firmly with Masok’s family during this difficult period.
“We remain hopeful and prayerful for his safe return. Safety is a shared responsibility — let us all do our part,” he said.
He also appealed to anyone with useful information to reach out to him directly on 08132886183.
