At least seven residents have been abducted following a fresh attack by bandits on Bukkah community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A local government official, who confirmed the incident to The Nigeria Times on Wednesday, said the armed men stormed the village in the early hours of the day, shooting indiscriminately to scare residents before taking away their victims.
“The attack began with heavy gunfire that jolted the entire community. Many residents fled into the surrounding forest for safety,” the source said.
Those kidnapped have been identified as Mohammed Rufai, Sagiru Musa, Bala Usman, Aisha’atu Usman, Bilkisu Isiya, Sa’adiya Usman, and Wasila Usman.
The source added that the difficult terrain and fear of a possible ambush prevented security operatives from responding swiftly to the distress calls.
The incident comes barely a day after gunmen invaded Nissi community, also in Chikun LGA, where an Anglican priest, Reverend Edwin Achi, and his wife, Sarah Achi, were abducted from their residence.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the rising wave of insecurity in Kaduna, lamenting that many communities in Chikun, Birnin Gwari, and Zangon Kataf local government areas remain under constant threat.
In recent weeks, several attacks have been recorded across the state. Last week, two police officers were killed when bandits invaded the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, the headquarters of Zangon Kataf LGA.
Similarly, three minors were among nine people killed in Layin Danauta village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, when bandits raided the community, leaving several others injured.
Residents are now calling on the state and federal governments to intensify efforts toward tackling banditry and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Kaduna State.
